If you logged in each day of the event, then you have candies (click on your avatar, select prizes -> events). Besides, it's Halloween. Candies are not meant to be lying around, they're meant to be eaten asap!

do you get candy just by logging on--i have only seen a special "collect' button a couple of times.

You get candy just by logging on each day! You can actually see your candy (they're really medals) by clicking on your avatar & selecting prizes and events.
